ERWINS AND THE CURRYS
The Erwins (Irvins) and the Currys came to America on same ship andlanded in Philadelphia in 1729. Erwins were in Augusta County, Va by 1737; Currys by 1745. They lived on adjoining farms in Virginia. All Edward's sons were married when they arrived in Virginia. In 1742, all sons were members of Capt. John Smith's militia company in Augusta
County (then part of Orange County, Va.) It is known by Edward's descendants that he held a patent from the King
of England (probably George II) for land in Virginia in repayment for military service rendered before he came to America. The Erwins came to America in 1729 with the Currys, McDowells, the McElroys, the Campbells (McCampbells) and remained in Pennsylvania until ca 1737, when they removed to Augusta County, Va.
