Hi Sue,
Did you find any other information on the ship, such as from where it sailed or the point of origin of the passengers ?
I too have Irving ancestors, but as far as I know at present, my gg-grandfather was the only one of his particular group to emigrate to the US which was in 1840 from County Tyrone, N. Ireland.
His ancestors were Bonshaw (Castle) Irvings in Dumfriesshire, Scotlad (Border area). There is a branch of this group which received Drum Castle and woods in Aberdeanshire as a gift of thanks from Robert the Bruce. There were other branches scattered through the Border area (& possibly Drum area). Some are Robgill, Hoddam, Pennersax, Stakehugh, Gretna and Luce from the Border area along with the elder seat of Bonshaw. There are a couple other residences of which I cannot recall the name at the moment - Woodhouse perhaps.
There were also several Irvings throughout Ireland. Some may have been there for generations as several versions of the descendancy have the first Irvings coming from what is now the Basque area of Spain and France to the east coast of Ireland and becoming a part of the High Kings of Ireland.Through this and probably other means, some relocated to Scotland via the rulers of Scotland for several generations including Duncan who was killed by MacBeth. But surely some stayed in Ireland.
Around the early 17th century, many Border Scots were sent to the Plantations of Ulster - a spiffy and underhanded little plan of King James....much more on that.
Please note, there are several different versions of the above, some with small variations, some with larger ones.
Pardon if I've gone on to no avail. Please let me know if you'd like additional information, links etc.
Wishing you a grand day.
Take care,
Carla
P.S. Note : there are over 240 spellings of the Irving surname all traceable mainly to the Bonshaw and Drum - Irwin or Irving and Irvine respecively with all those and more purported descendants of a common ancestor.I have some information going back to 300 AD.This is supposedly one of the oldest families/surnames with continuous male descendancy in history. One hint - if it is Irving, they would more likely be from the Bonshaw group.
