Hi! Margaret,
Yes, I live in the big state of Texas. After I posted my message to you, I read up on some of your messages to other people on the forum and I am not sure your John is my John but who knows. I have no knowledge about the John Irving I am looking for except that he came over to the states, in the mid to late 1800's and he was married to a Ann/Anna Riddick. They left behind a child who was raised by her father George Riddick and the son's name was George Samuel Riddick Irving snd he married Catherine Charlotte Cameron in England and they had seven children, Robert Cameron (my 2nd gggrandfather), Kathrine, James, Agnes, Jane Haining, Margaret, Donald. According to my records Samuel Riddick Irving was born Mar 1851. The story goes that John and Ann were sent to the states by her father because Ann married beneath her station. John supposedly was a sheepherders son who worked on her fathers estate in Dumfriess. Her father also had a horse farmer of some sort here in the states and they were sent here to hide the shame that his daughter had brought to the family name.
I was told that they had more children after they got here to the states and I think they ended up in Illinois too but I am not sure. I do know that when Sam came with his family, they did in up in Illinois around Logan and Sanganon Counties. I hope this helps a little in figuring out which John is which. If you have any info I would love to hear from you or anyone who could shed some light on my poor ancesters lost in Illinois.
Thanks!
Sharon
