Just obtained the DNA test results:
A descendent of your William has a 37 marker distance 1 from a descendent of Christopher Irvine born a1752 in Bedford Co., VA.This indicates a 53% chance they are related within four generations and 88% within 8 generations.Since 25 years are used for a generation, a 50 year old person would be about 200/25 = 8 generations from Christopher or William.Since they were not brothers, going back to their father or grandfather pushes the relationship to above 90% at those generations.
Unfortunately, after extensive research over 20 years, the best we can come to for Christopher is that his father was probably William, the son of Christopher Irvine.William had a brother, David, who was born in 1721; indications are that William was younger than David. This Christopher first appears in records showing that he was in what became Bedford in 1742.He may have been closely related to the John Irvin of Hat Creek (Bedford, then Campbell Co.), since my Christoper was taken as an orphan by John and raised to adulthood. It is also presumed that the older Christopher was related to Alexander, since Andrew was taken as an orphan by William Irvine, son of Christopher.Alexander appears to have been more likely of the same generation as Christopher's sons than Christopher, thus Christopher may have been his uncle. Nothing of Chrisopher has been found earlier. He probably settled first in PA, it is known that Hat Creek John did.
