I too am stuck on the same James Ironside married to Janet Geddes about 1780. Janet was born 15 Jan 1752 in New Deer. Her parents were George, born 13 Mar 1720 in New Deer and married to Isobel Murray 23 Jul 1746 in New Deer. Isobel Murray was born 28 Jun 1725 in Longside. George Geddes father was Patrick, born about 1700.
The James Ironside in question would be my GGGGrandfather. I have researched through the Mormon data bases. His father could have been John Ironside, born 17 Nov 1717 whose parents were James Ironside and Sarah Crawford or he could have been a John Ironside whose parents were Andrew Ironside and Janet Low, married 9 May 1717. The most likely of the two is James, given the propensity of repeating the James, Johns throughout the various generations.
James's father John could have married Barbara Alexander 5 July 1744, or Janet Beedy, 29 July 1744.
It would have helped if there were not so many James and Johns or if there were middle initials.
If you can elaborate on my data, or correct it in any way, please do.
Regards
Robert Ironside
