Hi,
Thank you for your reply.
No, I haven't had the opportunity to follow up the story about the boatload of people. I would, in the future, like to do a genealogical study not only on the Irizarry side of the family, but also on the Padilla family. My grandmother, before she married into the Irizarry family, was a Padilla-Padilla. According to my father, she was the first to marry out of the Padillas because they didn't want to marry anyone who wasn't of purely Spanish descent, by that meaning being able to trace their ancestry directly to Spain.
My dad died recently, but I always had a joke about him: Put on a beret and he could mingle witht he Basques in Spain!
As I said, I'd love to do a genealogical study, but will have to wait until I can get time off from my writing (see www.paperbackwriterpublishing.com) for more on this.
As for the Irizarry side of the family in San German, I've heard of a Miguel Irizarry in the line somewhere in the 1800s. Did you know, by the way, that the Irizarrys fought in the Grito de Lares uprising?
Personally, I don't know my Irizarry kin in San German. I grew up in NY. My kids were born here, brothers, sisters, nephews, etc. They are establishing my Irizarry side of the family here.
Let me know what else you find.
Aida
