Hello Simon, yes you are quite right about the variations in the Irizarry name spelling and how it was passed down through the generations. On my father's birth certificate the spelling is with a 'Y' which I only discovered upon his death a couple of years ago! I've been to the village of Irizarry that you mentioned. I've also been to Pamplona and several other Basque cities. The name Irizarry with that spelling exists all over the place! The challenge for all of us attempting family research from the Cabo Rojo area will be to distinguish the Irizarrys who moved to CR in the late 1800s and those who were already there! And attempting this from New York is virtually impossible ... perhaps I can do more on my next trip home! Gliced
