Hi Lisa,

I have been looking for information about a Mahlon Irey that was living in Jay County, Indiana in 1840. I suspect he is the father of Oliver Irey who married into my Smith family. There are a lot of other Ireys in Jay County between 1840-1860. In 1840 there is a Jonas Irey as well, who was from Virginia. In 1860 there are entries from Alfred R. Irey, Jonah Irey, Josiah Irey, Oliver Irey and Phineas Irey in Jay County Indiana. I also found a record of a Mahlon Irey marrying a Rachel McBride on 10/22/1829 in Columbiana County, Ohio.
Interestingly, if you look at the Quaker records you will find that the Ireys were Quaker and moved from Columbiana County to Jay County. My Smiths in Jay County at that time were also Quaker.
I'll let you know if I find out anything more.
Matt Smith
