Hello. My great-grandmother was an Irey and she always said that her people were English and Irish. I believe that the Irey name was originally Irish. In County Galway there was an Eire castle and in Galway City there is an Eire Street, Eire Pub. etc, etc. Eire means Gift of the Inheritance, as does Irey. My people came from Virginia to Ohio to Fayette co. IL ca l850 . Audrey
