Just to let you know that there are many Smiths and Sheridans in the Ballinamore area of Co. Leitrim, as well as the nearby Bawboy area of County Cavan, Ireland.
Back about 1930, my relative Susan Sheridan of Glangevlin, Co. Cavan, Ireland married a James Smith of Teeboy, Templeport, Co. Cavan in Chicago, Illinois.
There are Smith relatives still in the area. They had a big Smith reunion in Ballinamore in September 2008.My cousin Jack Smith and his wife attended.Jack is the son of the couple mentioned above.
Joe Smith is an undertaker and also sells cemetery monuments.

My Edward Sheridan was born in Corneenflynn, Glangevlin, Co. Cavan, Ireland about 1855 and settled in the Chicago area in 1885.Only one of his great nieces still lives in the the Glangevlin Parish. My last visit to the area was November 2008 to visit with her.
I know you said you had no idea where in Ireland your Edward Sheridan was born.Maybe this can help you narrow it down.
