Our Pendergasts are definitely from Wexford. Nicholas, our 1st immigrant, gave his birthplace as Duncormick, Wexford. He first cam through St. John, New Brunswick where he married Mary McCafferty. They had one son there before settling in East Boston. Nicholas' father was Laurence/Lawrence Pendergast and mother was Joanna/Johanna mn Quigley (though sometimes seen as Barry)I do not believe either parent emigrated. Nicholas had at least one sister, Margaret, who married James Furlong. That is the family found in Fitchburg/ Westford/ Lowell. I also believe that they are connected to Peter Pendergast of Lowell who married twice and had a number of offspring. Peter emigrated thru New York from Wexford 1846 and can be found in Lowell in 1849. Nicholas was in Boston as early as 1841 Either of them may have been a connection to bringing Margaret and husband to Massachusetts, but how/ why they ended up in Fitchburg I have no idea.
Interesting. Thanks for your input. Every little bit of information helps. Some day it will all fit together.
