Ralph, I called National Archives. The reference person wasn't sure what you are talking about. He said that the only tax valuations were done in the 19th century (and I already have both of them for that entire part of County Westmeath). Lowes only owned land in Kilkenny West in the 18th century. He says that in the 18th century people paid tithes to the church, and it was included in their rents, and no national office knows who the landowners were. He says that there was a window tax, and a hearth tax, which was the hearth money rolls. I looked up the hearth money rolls, as I've heard of them; they were 16663-1665, and I already know exactly what land the Lowes owned at that time. It was in the civil parish of Newtown and several adjacent parishes. Doesn't tell me which descendants got to Kilkenny West. The guy at National Archives told me to find out if you know of specific 18th century taxes assessed that there should be tax or valuation lists for.
