My 3x great grandfather, Nathaniel Lowe, born in County Westmeath in 1811 or 1812 (calculated from age on joining RIC and age on death record), was sponsored by "Sir F. Clibborn, J.P.", when he joined the Royal Irish Constabulary, in 1821. He was described as 20 years old and a laborer, which some of his family group were, though they were originally Cromwellian gentry. I need to learn where in Co Westmeath Nathaniel came from. Sir F. Clibborn JP should have been located near him, and tracking down the sponsor is a recommended method of tracing the place of origin of a member of the RIC. I don't know if an F. Clibborn even existed as I cannot find one. I am wondering if maybe it was one of the Thomas Clibborn's who were major landowners in the vicinity of Moate, which is the geographical center of Lowe family history. I also don't know how one qualified to be a JP or magistrate; if one had to own a significant amount of land or be eligible to vote, for example. I can really use help with any of the Clibborn family who were JP's or magistrates in 1831. Also how to find out who JP's were in Co Westmeath in 1831. The Mullingar library local history person is making like that is hard to come up with. If it is hard or easy, I need to come up with it. Thanks!
