In Reply to: Hood Robt &Matilda Newtownstewart Tyrone by Barbara Hood of 1710

Robert Hoodís marriage to Matilda Hood was registered in Strabane, Co Tyrone 1854 Volume 10, page 308. Iíd be inclined to obtain a copy of that and use the townlands (addresses) and church information as a basis for narrowing the search for their ancestors, using church records and Griffiths Valuation. You can get a photocopy from GRO Roscommon for Ä4 provided you quote the place, year, Volume & page number on the application form.

Hereís the abstract of a will which seems to be for Samíl Hood father of Robert Hood:

Full Abstract :
The Will of Samuel Hood late of Newtownstewart County Tyrone Merchant deceased who died 3 May 1876 at same place was proved at Londonderry by the oaths of John Hood Merchant and John Fulton Hood Gentleman both of Newtownstewart the Executors. Effects under £1,000.

The will itself can be seen on the PRONI website. It mentions his wife Margaret Hood, a son John Fulton Hood, a dau Mary Ann Cardus (?) (nee Hood), widow, of Australia, Robert Hood of Melbourne, dau Elizabeth Hood of Australia, dau Matilda Hood of Melbourne, son William Hood of Strawletterdullen, dau Rebecca Hood of Australia, youngest dau Louisa Hood.

One of the executors is another John Hood who is presumably related to the other Samuel Hood (father of Matilda Hood).

Straletterdallan is a townland in the parish of Ardstraw, and seems likely to have been that familyís home.

Hereís another will for John Hood:

Full Abstract :
Letters of Administration (with the Will annexed) of the personal estate of John Hood late of Pubble House Newtownstewart County Tyrone Merchant who died 11 January 1886 at same place were granted at Londonderry to Eliza Hood of Pubble House Newtownstewart Widow the Curatrix of the Minors the Residuary Legatees. (Limited.)        Effects £7,160 10s.

£7,160 would be a very large estate for that era. The family were clearly comfortably off. The will is 5 pages long and can be seen on the above PRONI website.
