Hi Arlene:

I research the Irish Family History Foundation's database. It contains 12,000,000 surviving rcds for abt 65% of Irish counties. Rcds are increasingly sparse B4 1840, rare B4 1800.

Note 1 - Without a KNOWN county, the chance of an ancestor's rcds NOT being in this database is AT LEAST 35%.

Note 2 - Only 1/2 of Co. Cork's rcds are in this database.

Note 3 - The RC church kept control over most parish rcds from Tipperary (north). These are ONLY available thru the Tipperary Family History Research center at a substantial fee (regardless of outcome).

For Hugh McAnn B ???? somewhere in Ireland with a father forenamed Peter, I found 0 rcds within a relevant range.

For Mic(hael) McAnn B 1887-1895, I found 3 rcds: 1888 Louth, 1890 Armagh, and 1892 Louth.

For James McAnn B ditto, I found 1 rcd in 1892 Cavan.

For Cat(herine) McAnn B ditto, I found 4 rcds: 2-1890 Tyrone, 1894 Louth, and 1895 Cavan.

For Peter McAnn B ditto, I found 8 rcds: 2-1890 Cavan, 1892 Kildare, 1892 Tyrone, 2-1893 Louth, and 2-1894 Tyrone.

For Mary McAnn B ditto, I found 7 rcds: 3-1887 Armagh, 1887 Louth, 1890 Westmeath, 1894 Tyrone, and 1895 Louth.

The above seem to point to Louth as the county.

For Peter McAnn M 1887 +/- 4 yrs in Ireland, I found 0 rcds.

For Cat(herine) Hughes B 1866 (exact), I found 29 rcds - too many to summarize here.

For Peter McAnn B 1864 +/- 4 yrs somewhere in Ireland, I found 1 rcd in 1861, Co. Sligo.

The failure to find a marriage rcd for Peter McAnn casts doubts on the validity of all the results. It may be that the rcds didn't survive, or haven't been transcribed yet. Suggest you wait until the database is more complete.

Google the Foundation's name to lead you to this database. Register, opt to be notified as rcds are added and browse. Pls post your search results to my genforum msg.

Hope this helps.
