Hello Mary,
I have only just come across your posting of 14 Nov 2001.
My interest is with the Fitzgerald family, in particular the ancestors of your Thomas FitzGerald.
I looking for any information regarding the ancestors, or descendants, of my Great, Great Grandparents, John Shortt of Pallas, near Toomyvara in North Tipperary, born in 1793, died on 16 Aug.1847, aged 54 years and his wife Mary Anne Fitzgerald, whom he married in 1819.
John Shortt is buried in family tomb in the churchyard of Dunkerrin Church of Ireland church, near Roscrea in North Tipperary.
Mary Anne Fitzgerald was born 1796, the daughter of Edward Fitzgerald of Coolmore (or should that be Coole?), Laois and she died 20 Jul.1873, aged 77 years.
John & Mary Anne had ten children:
(1) - Maria Shortt (b. abt 1820, married Thomas Crawford in 1841)
(2) - Edward Fitzgerald Shortt (b. abt 1825, d. 3 Aug.1863, aged 38 years)
(3) - Elizabeth Shortt (b. abt 1826, married Sadleir Stoney, d. bef.1863)
(4) - Alicia Shortt (b. abt 1828, married John Roe on 17 Mar.1848)
(5) - John Shortt (b.1830, married Anne Harriett Burriss on 3 Sep.1862 and they immigrated to New Zealand in 1865.Harriet Anne died on 6 Jan.1866, aged 22.John re-married, to Maria Blackmore, who was born abt 1835, possibly in Ireland or England)
(6) - Grace Emma Shortt (b. abt 1831, married Paul Aitcheson)
(7) - Albert Shortt (b. abt 1832, married Bessie Kate Alley in 1870)
(8) - Henry Shortt (b.1833, d. 3 Aug.1848, aged 15 years)
(9) - Rosanna Shortt (b. abt 1836, d. Mar.1848, aged 12 years)
(10)– Victoria Shortt (b. abt 1838, d. 10 Sep.1851, aged 13 years).
Does my Mary Anne Fitzgerald (1796-1873) have any connection with your Fitzgerald family tree?
Best Wishes from New Zealand,
Logan Shortt.
