Hi there Christy. John Perry's name shows up in some of the Long of Longfield family papers. Since the parents of Colonel Richard Hutchinson Long (1740-1814), were both descended from the Hutchinsons of Knocklofty, the Longs were sometimes mentioned in Hutchinson family papers. In the 1698 Will of Edward Hurchinson of Knocklofty, Edward H. refers to his kinsman, John Perry of Newcastle, & his wife Elizabeth. He also refers to his cousin, Mary Long, wife of Robert Long of Greystown. The 1709 Will of John Perry of Woodroffe, Tipperary, makes the request that Robert Long & Andrew Roe settle any differences over his will.
"The History of Clomel," 1983, by The Very Rev Wm. P. Canon Burke, makes references to the Perrys. Page 91 of "The History of Clonmel": "Richard Perry (or Perryman as he was sometimes called) Mayor's sergeant under the Cromwellian corporation, subsequently turned to trade and accumulating wealth & founded the well known county family." Page 125 refers to John Perry of Knocklofty, ca 1700.
Sure hope that adds a bit to your knowledge of the Perrys. May God bless you & your family & all the lovely people out there in Genealogy Land!
Cheers! count caragata
