Marshal Long of New York City & Newark, New Jersey
I would very much like to find the descendants of my gt-gt-gt-uncle, Marshal Long, who was born in Tipperary, Ireland in 1826. He came over to the States ca 1848 & taught school for many years in Lower Manhattan. He also liced for a time in Cincinnati ca 1858. Marshal Long married Mary (b Ireland 1836), maiden name unknown, & according to the 1880 US Census for Newark, they had three known children: 1. Francis Long, travel agent, b 1858 in Ohio; 2. Mary Long, b NY, 1862; 3. Edward Long, carver, b NY, 1865. Marshal Long was the 2nd son of Edward Thomas Long (1799-1875), of Ft Edward House & Longfield House, Cashel, Tipperary, Ireland, & post 1855, of Ironton, Sauk Co, Wis, by his wife, Mary Crozier Clarke (1804-53), 3rd daughter of the Rev Marshal Clarke of Abbey, Tipperary, by his wife, Eliza Hare, eldest daughter of the Venerable Patrick Hare (or O'Hehir), grandson of Turlock O'Hehir, a chief of a sept of the O'Brien clan. For further info on the Longs of Longfield, see the Ireland forum, Longs of Longfield, Cashel, Tipperary, posted 8/26/03, & the New York County forum, re Lt-Col Jenyns Charles Battersby, a 2nd cousin of Marshal Long. Cheers! Count Caragata
