Hello Denise, I found the marriage index for James Madden and Margaret Gleason showing their marriage took place in the Powerstown Roman Catholic Church, County Tipperary, in 1853. The index is from the Irish Family History Foundation (IFHF) website for County Tipperary (South). The IFHF website can be found at: http://www.rootsireland.ie/ Before you begin searching for ancestors at the IFHF website you first need to establish an account. Indexes are free to search, but to download a birth, baptism, marriage, or death transcription costs 5.00 Euros payable by credit card. Once the credit card payment is received a transcription of the record you are interested in, will be sent to your computer. The marriage index follows: 1 match for the search criteria: Madden (plus variants) James 1853 Parish: POWERSTOWN PARISH (RC) The cost to view the full details of the 1 record that you have not yet viewed is €5.00 Record Type: Marriage Records for Co. Tipperary (South) Surname: Madden First Name: James Spouse's Surname: Gleason Spouse's First Name: Margaret Father's Surname: Father's First Name: Mother's Surname: Mother's First Name: Year: 1853 Parish/District: POWERSTOWN PARISH (RC) ____ If you order the marriage transcription, see if the parents of James and Margaret are listed. If they are listed, you will then have a bases for further research, in that you can look for the individual baptism indexes for James and Margaret, and the marriage indexes for their parents. You will also be able to see if there are indexes for James and Margaret’s siblings. Next I uncovered the IFHF baptism index for Patrick Madden. The index shows he was baptized in the Powerstown Catholic Church in 1857, the same year your records show that he and his mother immigrated to the U.S.: 1 match for the search criteria: Madden (plus variants) Patrick 1856 Parish: POWERSTOWN PARISH (RC) The cost to view the full details of the 1 record that you have not yet viewed is €5.00 Record Type: Baptism/Birth Records for Co. Tipperary (South) Surname: Madden First Name: Patrick Father's Surname: Madden Father's First Name: James Mother's Surname: Gleason Mother's First Name: Margaret Year: 1956 Parish/District: POWERSTOWN PARISH (RC) ____ Powerstown was also known as Kilgrant, and is located northeast of Clonmel. I found a description of Kilgrant (Powerstown) in the 1837 edition of Lewis’s Topographical Dictionary of Ireland. You access the Topographical Dictionary at the Library Ireland website link at: http://www.libraryireland.com/topog/index.php See the description below: KILGRANT, or POWERSTOWN, a parish, in the barony of IFFA and OFFA EAST, county of TIPPERARY, and province of MUNSTER, 1 ¾ mile (E. N. E.) from Clonmel, on the high road from that place to Waterford, and the mail coach road from Cork to Dublin; containing 1186 inhabitants. It comprises 1749 acres, and is watered by the rivers Anner and Suir, over the latter of which is a stone bridge built at the expense of the late Sir Thomas Osborne, Bart.; and near the junction of the rivers are the extensive flour-mills and residence of Barclay Clibborn, Esq. The other seats are Annerville, the residence of — Riall, Esq.; Wilderness, of — Green, Esq.; and Redmonstone House, of — Quinn, Esq. It is a vicarage, in the diocese of Lismore, forming part of the union of Kilcash, or Killaloon; the rectory is impropriate in John Bagwell, Esq., and the tithes amount to £193. 16. 10., of which £129. 4. 6. is payable to the impropriator, and the remainder to the vicar. In the R.
