That's very kind, Ralph, thank you. I had already been to the Public Records Office in Kew & viewed Philip's service record, which is how I knew about the service in the East Indies. This also shows he was 6 ft tall with dark hair, dark complexion & hazel eyes!! I have also used the IFHF website and that is where I obtained Philip & Ann[e]'s 1831 marriage record. This shows the marriage on 9 Sep 1831, Ann's address is Borrisokane with none given for Philip; witnesses were Jno Canny & Anne Nash. I had previously obtained the baptism record of their son Patrick who was born in Dundee in 1846 while Philip was stationed there; this gave Ann[e]'s name. Philip was born in Chatham, Kent - I am assuming while his own father was on military service, perhaps even in transit to a posting abroad. This is something I need to research but without knowing his regiment it may take a while and I live 300 miles from London. Both Philip & Patrick served in the 87th regiment but I cannot assume Philip's father did the same. Roscrea is one town in Tipperary that I found Murrays & Sheedys on Grenham's Irish surnames. This is not too far from Nenagh where Philip enlisted in 1837 so may be an area of interest. I did find the 4 Anne Sheedy births that you did, but will not research them further [at €5 each] until [if ever] I have some means of corroborating her parents names. I am trying to search the Chatham baptism records for Philip. The 1864 civil death may be worth pursuing - Philip would have been 51. Your notes are useful information about the scope and limitation of records particularly for Co Cork & Co Tipperary. Thank you for your help. Notify Administrator about this message?
