In 1812, my ancestor, Michael Kilcool, sailed from Sligo on board the Robert Taylor, a ship chartered by Lord Selkirk.Michael was 22 years old at the time and a worker for the Hudson's Bay Company.Michael later appears in the censuses of the Red River Settlement which is now Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.The census information indicates Michael was Irish - not Scottish as many of Lord Selkirk's recruits were.Michael was also Roman Catholic.
