Assistance with Parish of Tarmon ? / family of Regan
Posted by: Leslie Lanigan (ID *****1709) Date: April 28, 2005 at 19:54:01

Hi! I have finally, after about 10 years, had a breakthrough in trying to discover my great great grandmother's birthplace. In a rather obscure obit in the Brooklyn Eagle, it states "a native of the Parish of Tarmon, County of Roscommon, Ireland."

My gggrandmother's name was Bridget Regan. I know she had at least two sisters, Ellen and Anne. According to her death certificate, she emigrated to the US @1858/1859. She was about 12/13 when she came to America. Apparently, again according to the death certificate, she had been in NY since @1863/1864. I know she married in Brooklyn (to Edward Collins) in 1864. I don't know where she came into the country, although it may have been Boston. She died very young, in 1884 at 38 years old (per the death certificate). Family lore says her mother's name was Hannah or Honora McCormick; and her mother's name was Catherine Bennett.

Does anyone know who I can contact to help me go further? Can anyone point me in the direction of Tarmon? I would so very much appreciate any help and assistance you can give. Of course, if there's anything I can do for any of you from here, you've just to let me know!

Sincerely,
Leslie
