Hi Kathleen, I want to thank you for the info you forwarded to me regarding the John and Mary Handy Cloonan and their children. Yes, I am looking for the siblings and parents of John Cloonan. I do have a copy of John's death certificate (d.Feb.19,1902-NYC) which lists his father as Christopher Cloonan. His mother's name is not clear but could be Este or Esther - no surname listed. I also have Mary Handy Cloonan's death certificate (d.June7,1903-NYC). Both certificates list how long living in U.S and in NYC which would make it 1866 that they arrived in the U.S. & NYC. I found a ship manifest that lists - with the same ages as I found in the Census Records - Mary Cloonan and three daughters - Bridget (same year of birth as Celia), Catherine and Teresa. Found two John Cloonan's that came prior to them also in 1866. For the children that I know were born in NYC, I do not have baptismal certificates for. I still have to track down what RC Church/es they could have been baptised in. I do have one for Esther Cloonan b.Ireland who was baptised in April 1862 in the Church of St. Bridgit of Clara. This was found with my Mother-in-Laws records (her mother was Teresa Cloonan). The story is that Teresa did not like her name and changed it to Teresa but that does not look like the case as she is listed as Teresa in the Census Records and the ship manifest - assuming I have the right manifest. I do not know where John and the two Patrick's were born. Most likely in NYC. Of the five sons only Christopher lived to adulthood. I do have a list of those interred at two separate graves in Calvary Cem. in Woodside, NY but John, Patrick & Patrick are not there which means that if they were born in NYC, they died in or before 1876. I did know that Christopher married a Mary but thought that her surname was Meehan to my knowledge they did not have children. Your info makes the second error from the handwritten info of the children of John & Mary. Do you know what newspaper Christopher's obit was in? I do have his death cert. Also, with regard to the obit for John Cloonan d. 1917 with son named Stephen b. Ire. do you know what newspaper that was in? I do have the Census Images for 1870 & 1880. A member of the family gave me a copy of a paper that someone on his side of the family wrote out. It lists John and Mary Cloonan, thier children and grandchildren. Thank you, I did not have the Griffiths info. Some of these things are on my to do list. I would greatly appreciate it if you could check the obits in NYC for John & Mary Cloonan (dates are above) and their daughter Margaret Cloonan Nelson who is buried with them. Margaret d.Feb.14,1908 in NYC as I do not have access to these records. Again many thanks and wishing you a Happy Holiday and New Year. Carol Notify Administrator about this message?
