The Churches which exist in the Parishes of County Monaghan were not placed centrally in their Parishes. Presbyterian Churches initially accepted the idea of Parishes but it later became a Church of Ireland & Roman Catholic designation. Some Churches, for example, are situated on the very edge of the Parish which encourages people from a neighbouring Parish to attend a Church in a Parish which they do not live in. The idea of people attending Churches, not where they lived, revolves around the word "convenient". Human relationships also affect the choices made as to which church to attend. In the past certain Churches changed (i.e. the Seceders) and people were faced with choices. In the Methodist Church a split occurred which resulted in many extra churches being erected. Availability of land is another consideration. All these events must be taken into consideration when looking at the background of family history. Maps of Church Parishes are available directly from me which illustrate the above.
