I have come across the name Clerkin in 2 ways during my search for the SHERRY family, both in the County of Monaghan.
The first is at my grandfather's marriage in 1866. The translation reads;

22 April 1866 Joined in marriage Edward Sherry and (Maria) Mary McCormic of Cavannagarvan. Obligatory Banns dispensed. Witnesses Thomas McCormic and Margaret Clerkin. Rev John Duffy.

The second is Valuation of Tenements List, Parish of Kilmore for the Townland of Cavanagarvan. There are references to James Clerkin, Francis Clerkin, Patrick Clerkin, and Peter Clerkin.

I can scan them both and send them to you if you wish.
My email address is
Please use Clerkin Family in the subject line so that I will pick it up easily.

Good luck
