Hi,looked at rootsireland.ie(which is pay per view) and they have 6 birth records for John Murphy with father Patrick between 1849-1859. They are 1852,1852,1855,1856,1856,1858. The only thing is not one is in Rathkeale.Looking at Griffiths Valuation 1848-1864,there are 4 Murphys in Rathkeale;Bridget,John,Daniel and Margaret but no Patrick. For the Reidys on the other hand you have Anastasia,Edmond,John,Matthew,Michael and Patrick. Also,in Rathkeale cemetery there are several burials for Reidys none for Murphy. You should look through Griffiths Valuation for any Patrick Murphys, take down parishes he's found in and compare to the John Murphys on rootsireland. You may find John's birth this way.Do you know if John had any family in Michigan? I ask because there are 2 death certs for Murphys who died in Marquette county where John lived who could be brothers.Bear in mind the birth dates listed as the can be erroneous. One is Patrick born @ 1842 died 15 Aug 1886 parents:Patrick and Marguerite Murphy and the other is James Murphy born @ 1870 died 30 Nov 1900 parents:Patrick Murphy/Mary Sullivan.Lastly you should obtain a copy of his naturalization record which would give you his place of birth and an immigration date which would be very helpful. With a name like Murphy in Ireland you need to find every scrap of info in US before approaching Irish records.Hope this helps,Kim
