Births in Scotland in 1855 and from 1861 onwards contained details of where and when the parents married. I suggest therefore that you get the 1855 birth for Maria as that should give you the information you are after.
1855 births in Scotland are considered very lucky in genealogical terms since those certificates contain a lot more information than in later years. You may also get the parents place of birth. That’s the only year that information was ever recorded.
