Mathews is much more common in Co. Down than Mathieson, so Iíd be inclined to focus on that option. Thereís several pages of Mathews on this Co Down site but only 1 Mathieson entry:

If the marriage was pre 1845, then you need to know which denomination and which church. Without that itís a needle in a haystack. (I'd guess Presbyterian but that may not be correct).
