Herbert,the man you seek David Stanton who appears in the 1855 NY census can be found in the Tithe Applotment books.

county:Cork

if you go onto www.familysearch.org and into Irish records,Tithe Applotment books you can find other Stantons from the same area.Hope this helps,Kim
