Minehan to Monahan, Bruree, Limerick > St. Louis, MO > Quincy, IL

My great, great, great grandfather was James Monahan born about 1844 or 1846 in Ireland. His family came to America when he was about 9 and settled in St. Louis, MO, though he alone went on to Quincy, IL. His mother Mary was the oldest person in St. Louis when she died in 1901. She was born about 1800. Her obituary said she was from Bruree, limerick. Her husband Peter(?) was supposedly from the same area. James could not ever say for sure though how accurate that was as he was too young to truly remember. And growing up my grandmother always said the family was from Cork (or so she heard). The only records for that time period before they immigrated are tithe applotments for 1 Peter Minehan just outside Bruree town limits. If anyone has any information on this family, particularly Mary's maiden name, it would be appreciated. We all thought Monahan was the family name. Finding out it may have been changed is a bit of a curveball.
