St.Clair of Ireland, early 1800's
I've been trying to trace my line, and there are things pointing to Ireland, so I'm hoping some of you may have some information that would help.My GG-Grandpa was George St.Clair, and the family story is that he was born at sea on the ship his father was a captain of.Shortly thereafter, his father died, on that same ship. His mothers name was Mary, last name unknown. She remarried William Whitters, somewhere around 1837, probably in England or Ireland.William was from Ireland, Mary was probably from England, but that is not for sure.George St.Clair was born in 1834, and I have found the Whitters family in 1841 and 1851 English censuses, just not sure if it is the same family.George's half brothers would have been William Whitters and James Whitters. There may have been sisters, Mary Jane and Louisa, but I'm not completely sure.I have been trying to find more information so I can order a birth certificate for one of the Whitters boys, hoping that Mary's maiden name might be on it.Just need to make sure it's the right family. But I am really hoping someone might know more about George St.Clair, who his father may have been, what the ships name was, etc...In case it helps, following are the names of all of George's Children:
George Harrison St.Clair, Joseph St.Clair, William Riley St.Clair, Louis Edward St.Clair, Emma St.Clair, Nelson Gibson St.Clair, Ada Elizabeth St.Clair, Edwin St.Clair, Maud Harriet St.Clair, and John Frederick St.Clair.George was married to Mary Spendlove.George moved to Ontario, Canada, in about 1860, with the Whitters, then he made his way to the U.S.A. That is where he met his wife. They lived in Ophir, Utah, United States, for most of their time together.George has been a huge brick wall for my family research, as I've not found anything very definitive on exactly where he came from, who his father was, or even if there were any uncles on his fathers side.I truely hope someone has something that might help, as I'm very interested.Thank you in advance for any help you may have.
Josh
