My family did travel around a bit (even across to Scotland and England some times) and were linked by marriage to a number of other easily traced families.
Without land and influence they went where they could to work or settle remained in contact with the larger family group.
This flies in the face of what we are taught about olden times - people had a village and stayed there. My family research shows the Irish had no problem with wandering around.
A big deal was made of preachers who gave good sermons, when the community had a reason to celebrate friends and former co-workers would gather alongside the immediate family.Arthur is an interesting name for Ireland.
