1930 US Census
Milburn, Essex Co., New Jersey
Garrabrant, Edward, Head, aged 70, born New Jersey, parents b. same, caretaker, water works
Garrabrant, Ingebor, Wife, aged 47 (or 49), married, born New Jersey, parents b. Ireland (North)
Garrabrant, Edward, aged 11, born New Jersey
Garrabrant, Walter, aged 9, born New Jersey
Garrabrant, George H., brother, born New Jersey, widower
Do you have the baptismal/birth records for Walter? What about the marriage records for Edward and/or Walter. Edward Sr. & Ingebor must have been married in New Jersey. Certainly Ingebor is not an Irish name, and neither is Swanson.
Am having trouble finding them in the 1920 census, but did find this:
West Orange, New Jersey
Cheatham, Walter E, Head, aged 36, married, born New Jersey, parents b. same, letter carrier, government
Cheatham, Flora M., Wife, aged 31, married, born New Jersey, father b. NJ, mother b. Germany
Cheatham, Harriet, Daughter, aged 9, born New Jersey
Cheatham, Janice L., Daughter, aged 2 years, 2 months, b. New Jersey
Garrabrant, George, Uncle, aged 58, widower, b. NY
Carrol, William, aged 40, single, born Pennsylvania, parents b. Ireland, machinist
The parish records for St. Mark's should note the marriage of the parents; ie, that Edward Wallace was the son of the legitimate marriage of Edward & Ingebor, and hopefully, also give a date. You should see if you can find the original baptismal registry.
