Smiths of Washington County, NY
I'm looking for the parentage and/or Irish origins of several of my Smith ancestors, who lived in Washington Co., Saratoga Co., NY and beyond. They have been undeniably linked as siblings using many historical records, including personal letters in a private collection.
The oldest is Rosannah Smith, b. Ireland January 1791. She married Levi S Bishop, b. Massachusettes September 1780. Marriage before November 1818, which was the birth of their first child, Mary Ann. Other children are Dr. John, b. Washington Co. 1819; James E, b. Washington Co. 1823; Catharine R, b. Argyle, Washington Co. April 1831. By 1840 the Bishop's were living in Galway, Saratoga Co., NY, and relocated again to Victor, Ontario Co., NY early 1860s.
Second Smith child is Mary Ann, b. Ireland 1797. She married John D Gillis, b. Hebron, Washington Co. October 1779. By early 1820s the Gillis's had moved to Victor, Ontario Co. Their children were all also born in Argyle, Washington Co.: Enos, b. June 1815; John Smith, b. July 1823; Roseana, b. October 1825.
Michael Smith, b. Ireland 1800, married Livonia Andrews and were living first in Providence, Saratoga Co., then in Wyoming Co., NY by 1838, settling in Shelby, Orleans Co., NY before 1860. Children: Mariah T, b. Providence, Saratoga Co. July 1831; Levi, possibly Mariah's twin, b. Saratoga Co. about 1831; Mary b. Providence, Saratoga Co. 1834; Malinda C, b. Wyoming Co. October 1838.
Lastly, Edward O Smith, b. NY January 1808, was a pioneer and accredited as being one of the first settlers of Eaton Co., MI, early 1840, but was living in Providence, Saratoga Co. in 1830, just before marrying Anna Carpenter of Saratoga Co. Their only child James E, b. Saratoga Co. September 1834. Edward remarried after the death of Anna, to Sarah C Payne, also of NY. They had one son, Alvah G, b. Lyons, Ionia Co., MI March 1862.
