Moore/Posey Co., IN/Letter of T. M. Moore
This is from a letter sent by T. Mills Moore to a Mrs. Howard, 13 December 1983. Dear Mrs. Howard, received your letter and glad to know that we have a mutual Great, Great, Grandfather. You have about all the information that I can give you which you got from Mr. Harrison and Mrs. Delop. I have no new address of Mrs. Delop. I heard my Grandmother say that she had seen Simeon Moore's tool chest that he brought to South Carolina from Ireland. He was a ship's carpenter. {James William Dupre writes in the margin that this chest belonged to Simeon's grandmother. Mrs. Kathleen Howard states that T. Mills Moore who was in his 90s in 1979 said that Simeon's Grandfather, name unknown was the ship carpenter who came to Charleston. Also that the Moore's were Scots-Irish, medium height, light complected and blue eyed. She also stated that Simeon's parents were James and Ann and James' brother was my ancestor William, father of Aaron of Posey Co., Indiana] I got a Zerox copy of the original picture of Sineon Moore from an Uncle who has since passed away and do not know what happened to it (the original). Sorry I can't be of more help but if any new information turns up I will be glad to pass it on. I have your address on file. With best wishes for the Holiday Season. T. M. Moore.Note by David Glenn Moore: These Moore's seemed to have lived in the Carolinas and Georgia before passing through Tennessee and Kentucky on their way to Posey Co. Indiana in the early 1800s. Aaron Moore (father of Leonard) here is not the same as Aaron C. Moore. On looking at this note for the first time in years I wonder if James and William Moore's Irish father might have been named Simeon? Hence Simeon son of James would be named for his grandfather. Just a speculation. T. M. Moore now deceased lived in Christopher, Illinois.
