Hi Ralph,
Thanks for looking around rootsireland.ie for Charles Lynn. He was born January 7, 1841 in Ireland to Catherine Scott and John Lynn. His sister Agnes was born in 1839 Ballymena (two young brothers were born in Ireland along with their mother Catherine Scott according to census records - My grandmother said that John Lynn, their father, was born in Scotland).
I haven't found many Charles Lynns at all, but Agnes does name her second or third son Charles, so I'm thinking it is after her brother.John Lynn dies when the children (four in total) are young and Catherine remarries, so that is why I think Charles joins the English military and travels to U.S. in 1862 or 63.He marries in New York after fighting in the civil war and lives out his entire life in Albany County, NY (buried in Albany Rural Cemtery).
My grandmother was a strick Protestant, so I'm 99% sure the Lynn and Scott families would be Protestant too.Perhaps it will be difficult to research this family due to the lack of records, but we will keep trying.
Thanks for your response and information about the website rootsireland.ie.I will have to look around there too.
Happy New Year!
Cindy
