Need Help with Location ID
I have been researching my gg grandfather who was from Ireland, and recently came across some information that may help me figure out where in Ireland he came from. However, I need some help trying to figure out where the documents I have might be referring to as I cannot find an exact match.
Here is what I know:
My gg grandfather George Barnett was born in 1827 and had a twin sister Margaret. It appears they immigrated together to the United States in 1846 on the ship Ashburton from Liverpool. According to Margaret's obituary, it states they were from "Caran County" in Ireland. On George's death certificate, the handwriting is difficult to read but it appears to say he was born in "Ireland - West M???".
My guess is maybe they were from Caran in County Westmeath, but the obit could have meant to say "Cavan County".
I have the documents and would love for someone else who is familiar with Ireland to take a look and let me know what they think; I could not find a way to attach them to this message, but I can email them. I also am not sure what records would be out there from Ireland that I could start looking at.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
