Mary Donnohue McAleer
Obituary

Mary Donnohue was born April 16, 1834 in Kerry County, Ireland, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wm. (Mame) Hasslett, February 12, 1920. At the age of 18 years , she came to the United States and for a number of years resided in New York and New Jersey. While living in New Jersey she was united tin marriage to Patrick McAleer. To this union were five daughters and a son, of which only two daughters survive. During the period of the Civil War, Mrs. McAleer resided in New Jersey while her husband, Patrick, took an active part in the war. After the close of the war the family came west to Momence, Illinois, where they remained for a few years. They then moved to Hoopeston, Illinois, where they resided for eight (8) years. They returned to Momence and have since remained here until death took the husband nine years ago. Mrs. McAleer was, from childhood, a faithful and devoted member of the Catholic Church. She leaves to mourn her loss two daughters, Mrs. Wm Haslett of Momence and Mrs. Ed (Sadie) McGrail of Richmond, Ohio. Also nine (9) grandchildren and six (6) great-grandchildren who will sadly miss a beloved mother and grandmother. The funeral services were held from the Catholic Church last Saturday morning at 10 o’clock, burial took place at the Catholic Cemetery in Momence.

The obit and some records have her being born in county Kerry however what has been passed down through several branches of the family is that she was from county Cork I do know that Mary became a naturalized citizen in Illinois
