Robert Neil O'Rourke/Robertson/Bingham 28/10/1918

I am searching for family and information relating to Robert Neil O'Rourke, born 28 Oct 1918. His Australian death certificate states his father to be Patrick O'Rourke and mother Kathleen (surname unknown). The death cert also indicates that he arrived in Australia about 1925 when he was 7 years old. It is unclear whether he arrived in Australia with both parents or just one but he has stated to his family that he had 8 siblings, unfortunately never mentioned any names. At some stage his presumed mother Kathleen married a Bingham and Bingham is said to have adopted all the children. He served in WWII under the names Neil Robert Robertson and Robert Neil Bingham, both names being accounted for with the same Service Number and noting K Bingham as his next-of-kin.

Under the name of Neil Robert Robertson, he states his place of birth as Port Augusta, South Australia. It is unclear why he did this as it is not believed to be accurate. The only possible connection is that we have found a Kathleen Augusta Robertson born in Port Augusta 1886 who may have been a mother figure to him but it is only supposition. Neil said his family lived on a farm in Yea, Victoria, after arriving in Australia and life was hard.

When Neil married, it appears that he changed his date of birth to 28 October 1913 to appear older than his wife. His death certificate names him as Robert Neil Bingham and he left nothing behind to enable the tracing of his family. It is like he just walked away and never looked back. I am hoping somebody out there might be able to fill in the blanks and the queries.

Many thanks
Suzanne
