There only appears to be one townland called Portlough in Ireland. It’s in the civil parish of Allsaints, in Co. Donegal. Assuming they were RC, the parish records only start in 1843 which will probably rule out finding details of them through that source:

Griffiths Valuation has 10 households listed there in1858. None named Gillen (and variants) though not all residents were listed in GV.
