In Reply to: John H. Gillen: 1840s, departed Ireland; maybe Londonderry, arrived Nova Scotia by Larry Gillen of 94191

1870 US Census
Richmond, Madison Co., Kentucky

Gillun (sic), John, aged 60, tayler (sic), born Ireland
Gillun, Emaline, aged 37, born Georgia
Gillun, Robert, aged 22, born Georgia
Gillun, Frank, aged 16, born Kentucky

Two other sons are living next door with their wives and children. The family is in the same county in the 1860 census -- John's wife, Adeline, is aged 35, and the oldest child, Sarah, is 20, born in Georgia. However, in this census, it indicates that John was born in Scotland. The 1850 census in Greene County, Georgia also indicates a birthplace in Scotland.

In the 1880 census, John, still a tailor, is living in Rock Castle, Kentucky; indicates he was born in Ireland, living with his eldest daughter, Sarah Lamb.

You should try to find out more info about his death, likely in Kentucky, which may provide you with additional info.
