How do you find someone when the CENSUS just says born Ireland

I have no idea where to start an I have no idea what releigon they were I have been looking for any info I can get on my gggrandfather & his first wife and their parents.
I was just about ready to give up and my wife told me to try again I need any info on their parents and their marriage
PLEASE someone HELp me.

2 sons were born in Belfast, County Down, Ireland
1. Matthew Reid
b: Oct 24, 1821 Belfast, County Down, Ireland
d: Jan 18, 1880 Bellville, Richland Co., Ohio
2. Arthur L. Reid
b: July 13, 1823 Belfast, County Down, Ireland
d: Dec 15, 1861 Washington Twp, Richland Co., Ohio
