Lindsay,I found online a record of James and Christina's marriage which occurred in 1870 in Adams,Illinois.I would recommend getting a copy of it for the parents' names to make it easier to narrow down your search as Monahan is a common name.Write to the Adams clerk as it may be faster than the Illinois Vital records office.Kim
