Michael,I looked at the census records to give you some info.In 1920 and 1930 census Patten says his parents born in Virginia and Emma says hers are born in Virginia in 1920 but in 1930 that hers are born in Kentucky.I then looked at the 1900 census for Patten's parents David and Sarah who say they are both born in Virginia to parents both born in Virginia. In the 1910 census,David's wife Sarah has died and he's married to a lady named Nickotie and says his father born Tennessee and mother born North Carolina. As for Emma Jane and her parents, there are 15 Emma's coming up on the 1900 census in Virginia so you would need to get the marriage cert for Patten and Emma(between 1910-1915 in Virginia)to know which people in the census are Emma's parents. You will have to work slowly back through the censuses to begin with as it looks as though both the Collins and Anderson families may have been in the US quite a while.Hope this helps,Kim
