I'm looking for information on Bernard and Mary (Keegan) McCarty, who came here from Ireland. They both were born about 1844-45. I'm pretty sure Mary emigrated with her family as a baby around 1845, but I don't know anything about Bernard. I can't find a marriage record for them, though they must have been married in the US. They had 3 children, Elizabeth, Thomas, and John Patrick, who was my great-grandfather. Records John Patrick McCarty are sparse, too. They settled in Providence, RI, and I think they also lived in Cranston. I believe Bernard died in 1889. John Patrick got into some kind of trouble, and I think he was lying low and was using the name John Mack. He was a musician and actor, and I've seen the name "Johnny Mack" on a Baird's Minstrels playbill, but I know that was a common name and might not be my ggrandfather. I have a pretty definite death record from 1941 in Providence, RI, and a 1940 census listing him as a janitor at an apartment house in Cranston. It says he's a veteran of the Spanish war, but again, I can't find a record of that. I have no idea what became of Julia after 1910. John and Julia had 3 children and adopted another: Mary, John Valchester, Nellie Clare, and Ralph, who was born Ralph R. Randall. John and Ralph changed their name to McCarthy at some point. I'd appreciate any tidbits I can find about Bernard, John, and Julia. Thanks.
