THOMAS LYNCH/BYRNE
Posted by: SIMON LORD (ID *****9736) Date: March 08, 2012 at 05:08:31

Dear all,

I have a bit of a confusing issue I am trying to sort for a friend.

My friend, Thomas Joseph Lynch was born on 2nd December 1946 at Coombe Hospital, Dublin according to a copy of his Birth Certificate. Also on this certificate it states his Father as Thomas Lynch, Labourer of 90 Monastirplaice(?) Road and his Mother as Josephine Lynch (formerly Byrne).

Now here is where it gets confusing.

The Baptismal record states that Thomas Joseph BYRNE was baptised on 13th December 1946 at the Church of Nicholas of Myra. The same birth date, 2/12/46 is also on the certificate and the sponsors name is Agnes Byrne who is Josephine's sister. So these are the same person.

My friend tells me his parents, Thomas and Josephine were never married and Josephine was only 16 when she fell pregnant which would account for the cover up one would assume.

Apparently once he was born his Father wanted nothing to do with the family and was never seen again. He believes that his Father was only a few years older than his Mother and that they may have gone to the same school.

My friend would like to know any information about his Father, can anyone help?

Regards,
Simon
