Peter,I could not locate a marriage cert nor birth cert for James Merchant but I did find the birth records of his children:
all born in county Waterford:
William 1797
James 1798
Elizabeth 1802
Michael 1804
Daniel 1807
Valentine 1809
Mary Ann 1810
Eliza 1812.
Also,I did find a birth record for a William in 1768 co Waterford who could possibly be related if you use Irish naming patterns as a guide. What I would do is get the birth certs as they may contain more valuable info/or may not.It all depends on what the priest recorded. It could lead to their parish and more info. The certs can be found on rootsireland.ie.Hope this helps,Kim
