I'd take those dates of birth from death certs w/a huge grain of salt ... so my first question is -- can you point to this family in 1860, 1870 or 1880 census?

You don't give the other childrens' names to Tom & Maria ... Rose, Thomas & ___________. Can you point to them in a census? Where did they live in Chicago? Where was Tom Jr baptized?

Have you PHONED Calvary and asked who is buried with the parents?

When you say Tom Jr born in Chicago, is that based on his death cert? I don't readily see this family, but I do see a MA family that might work (just something to think about, I know Roseann states b NY....)

Tom Jr. names a child Bernard ... unusual.

Often told about roaming the woods in ireland before coming to America, studying bird songs and trying to imitate them. Never heard of him attending school, but he did like to read. Liked the poetry of Robert Burns and Thomas Moore. Aster is marriage to Susan l. Mahan, he came over the old National Trail to Vandalia, Illinois which at that time was the capitol of Illinois. The Old National Trail is now US Highway 40 Then Vandalia was the western terminus. He sent for his wife Susan and their three living children, James Patrick 1856, Mary Frances 1858 and Charles Bernard 1862 to join him.
