Statutory registration of births only started in Ireland on 1.1.1864 so you wonít find a birth certificate for him. You might find his baptism, if the records have survived, but to do that you need to know his exact religious denomination together with his parish or townland in Ireland. Check all the Scottish censuses in case a more exact place of birth is given than Ireland, likewise any family bibles, obituaries, gravestones and Poor Law records (which usually give the personís parish in Ireland). Otherwise itís a needle in a haystack.
