HERNANS from Ireland

My maternal grandmother's maiden name was Margaret Hernan from Moville, County Donegal, Ireland. She came to the US around 1910 along with her two sisters, Rosina and Josephine. They settled in Philadelphia, PA.
She later married my grandfather, Patrick Costello(whose name was Cushley when he left Ireland). I have been trying to find out about the Hernan surname for years but was never able to get a definitive answer ( some say it's related to Hernandez-from the Spanish influence in Ireland). There are quite a few Hernans buried at St. MAry's Church cemetary in Ballybrack (outside of Moville, County Donegal).
